I have been once acquainted with the night
I have walked out in rain –and back in rain
I have outwalked the furthest city light.
I have looked down the saddest city lane.
And dropped my eyes ,unwilling to explain.
I have stood still and stopped the sound of feet
When far away an interrupted cry
Came over houses from another street,
But not to call me back or say good-bye
And further still at an unearthly height
One luminary clock against the sky
Proclaimed the time was neither wrong or right.
I have been one acquainted with the night.


ذات حلكة .......عرفت الليل
في مرة ما تلاقيت مع الليل
مشيت تحت المطر ...
مبتلا بالمطر عدت
تغلغلت بعيدا عن اضواء المدينة
نظرت اليها حزينة كابية
مررت بالحارس في نوبته
و على ما لا اريد شرحه وقعت عيناي عنوة
اسكت قرع نعالي و مكثت واقفا
عندما تناهى الى سمعي نشيج
عابرا البيوت قادما من شارع آخر
نشيج ليس مودعا
و لا يستمهلني البقاء
مدى استنارة كوكب
لم يكن الوقت صحيحا
ايضا لم يكن خاطئا
عندما تقابلت مع الليل ذات مرة
